Rule_Faith Dice 1d6

The Faith Dice is a 1d6 die representing a character’s spiritual conviction and belief. It sits visibly on the table, showing the character’s current faith level. The value on the Faith Dice influences how the character interacts with the world and shapes their actions. In extraordinary moments, the character can call upon their Devotion to achieve greatness—but at the risk of destabilizing or even losing their faith entirely.

Adjusting Faith Levels

The Faith Dice is adjusted manually based on the character’s actions, experiences, and the unfolding story:

  • Increase Faith:
    • Witnessing miracles or fulfilling a spiritual vow.
    • Finding clarity or support during moments of doubt.
  • Decrease Faith:
    • Facing devastating failure, betrayal, or personal loss.
    • Encountering challenges that deeply conflict with their beliefs.

Devotion Rule: Risking it All

When the Faith Dice shows 6, the player may call upon their Devotion to achieve extraordinary results in a critical moment. However, this comes with the risk of altering their faith level, possibly leading to doubt or even complete loss of faith.

How Devotion Works:

  1. Faith Level at 6: The Faith Dice must already be showing a 6 to activate the Devotion Rule.
  2. Declare Devotion: The player chooses to roll the Faith Dice during a critical action tied to their faith.
  3. Automatic Success: The action automatically succeeds spectacularly, transcending normal expectations. The Leader and player narrate the powerful outcome together.
  4. Faith Re-Roll: After the action, the player rolls the Faith Dice, and the result becomes their new faith level.

Leader role

The Leader plays a critical role in managing the Faith Dice system, ensuring it contributes to rich storytelling:

  • Challenge Faith: Create moments that test the character’s beliefs, forcing them to decide whether to hold onto their faith, risk it with Devotion, or let it waver.
  • Guide Consequences: When the Faith Dice is adjusted or surrendered, ensure the narrative reflects the character’s spiritual journey, introducing challenges, opportunities, and moments of reflection.
  • Returning the Dice: If the player has surrendered their Faith Dice, the Leader decides when—if ever—it is appropriate for the character to regain it, based on the story’s development.

Faith Dice Rules

Starting Value

At the beginning of play, the Leader and the player decide the Faith Dice’s starting value (between 1 and 6) based on the character’s background, story, and relationship to their faith.
Faith Levels and Their Meaning

The value on the Faith Dice reflects the character’s current spiritual state:

6: Divine Certainty – #Miracle #Hope #Shield

5: Unshakable Conviction – #Shield #Hope

4: Resilient Belief – #Shield #Seeking

3: Wavering Faith – #Seeking

2: Fragile Belief – #Doubt

1: Crisis of Faith – #Crisis #Doubt

0: Faithless – Surrendering the Dice: When the Faith Dice is reduced to 0, the player must immediately hand it to the Leader.
This signifies that the character has lost their faith entirely and can no longer rely on it.
Getting the Dice Back: Whether the player regains their Faith Dice depends entirely on the story. In principle, the Faith Dice is lost forever, but if the narrative provides a moment of spiritual renewal or rediscovery, the Leader may choose to return it to the player.

Impact on the Game: Losing the Faith Dice should be a transformative moment for the character, shaping their actions and interactions moving forward.
