A Lens is a thematic or emotional filter imposed by the game leader to guide the tone of the session or a specific scene. It sets a shared mood or perspective that all players must align their character interactions and decisions with. The Lens encourages cohesive storytelling and ensures that the game’s tone remains focused and immersive.

How to Use the Lens

  1. Define the Lens: At the start of the session or during a pivotal moment, the game leader declares the active Lens. Examples include:
    • Desperation
    • Euphoria
    • Paranoia
    • Hopeful Optimism
  2. Communicate the Lens: The game leader should explain how the Lens colors the world and the narrative. This could include describing the atmosphere, NPC behaviors, or environmental cues that reinforce the Lens.
  3. Player Alignment: Players adjust their character’s actions, dialogue, and demeanor to reflect the Lens. They do not need to abandon their character’s core traits, but they should adapt to the shared emotional framework.
